Kellyann Striplin in action with the Mimes of Mayhem.
Hey Mimics!
Ed here again with a greeting and an update! Recent days have been the busiest ever in the Land of Mimes, though it hasn’t all been spent behind the black & white makeup. Admittedly, our “side project” as Stone Temple Pilots tribute band Sex Type Thing has taken off and become a major focus for us of late. In the last several months, we’ve played all over Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn & New York City to awesome audiences and a new wave of fans. As a band, we’ve also taken a couple field trips to see the real live STP in concert this summer, and on one very exciting night in Brooklyn, watched them perform onstage at the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn only to go on with our own set of STP tunes immediately afterward only mere blocks away. The continued development of our act as STT and the success that has gone along with it has opened up new opportunities and as a result we’ll be soon travelling well beyond our usual borders. On our agenda right now we have forthcoming gigs on October 8th (Even Flow in Bay Shore), October 14th (KJ Farrell’s in Bellmore), October 21st (Dublin Underground, Albany, NY), and October 29th (back in Bay Shore at Even Flow), with more dates to be announced soon! We certainly hope you’ll come on out and catch this ever-tightening act live on stage soon!
The members of Sex Type Thing have all done a great job in coordinating and adding their individual skill sets to the mix toward creating the success that we’re now seeing, but special credit has to be sent on toward our Drummer and Business Manager, Darrin Cirillo, who has been working tirelessly wheeling & dealing with venue owners, other bands and booking agents to keep us busy and successful on the road. His efforts have been at the core of all the good things I get to report here.
Speaking of the core. Core, STP’s groundbreaking first album that features hits like “Plush”, “Wicked Garden” and “Creep”, will be turning 20-years-old in 2012. Don’t be too surprised if we choose to present a special anniversary tribute to that amazing initial offering sometime as the anniversary date approaches. Stay tuned. Never wanting to get stagnant, we’ve also got other ideas in the works, from new STP material to possible all-acoustic shows. If you’re already a fan of us as Sex Type Thing, keep coming down to see us as there’s lots of fresh new turns ahead!
“But Ed, what’s happening with the Mimes of Mayhem?!!!”
Wow. Thanks for reminding me! I’d almost forgot! Fear not, your Mimes are still active, even if our STT project has become something of a focal point for seeing us publicly. The Mimes have recently opened for STT on several occasions, including this past week at a special benefit for our troops in the Middle East. Special guest vocalist Kellyann Striplin continues to take on a larger role with lead vocals and audiences will tell you what an electric onstage presence she has been. The Mimes can be seen opening for STT this coming Saturday, October 8th at Even Flow, 150 E. Main Street, Bay Shore, NY. Get there at 8, order some of this joint’s amazing wings, and settle in for an entire evening of Mimes and STT! In Mimeland, we’re also contemplating new song choices, especially mindful of Kellyann’s larger presence and recently-added material to keep things exciting for you fans of the Mimes’ eclectic cover experience.
Well that’s about all I’ve got time to report on for now, but see us in person soon and make sure to say Hi! Also, as always, don’t forget to check us out on Facebook as both the Mimes of Mayhem AND Sex Type Thing. “Liking” us there makes us even happier!
Best always from the inside of our big invisible box,
E
