Even Flow Bar & Grill, Bay Shore, NY

10:00PM : Mimes of Mayhem opened the show at Even Flow to a warm welcome from the initially sparse audience.  As the evening got going, the crowd filed in and enjoyed the band through a couple of sets of hard rockin’ covers.  Many of the folks there, especially in the early going, were special friends and family of none other than our very special guest vocalist, Kellyann Striplin. The support for Kellyann was evident and appreciated, and she thrilled them in all of her performances throughout the evening.

This is a great venue, with good food (check out their wings! -always made fresh and in a number of original and creative varieties that simply cannot be matched elsewhere!), well stocked bar and beer selection, great drink specials and otherwise very reasonable prices, and a welcoming atmosphere for all. If we lived locally, it’d be one of our regular hang-outs. When there are bands playing there we want to see, you can bet we’ll be making the trip.

Overall it was another great night for the band – and they can’t wait to do it again back at Even Flow Bar & Grill.

Schizophrenic!

May 9th, 2011 by Ed

Hello Mime-eteers,

Ed here again. So much going on in the Land of the Mime I don’t know where to begin. With recently-successful and well-attended shows at Connolly’s Klub 45 in midtown Manhattan, KJ Farrell’s on Long Island, and our old haunt – OCI in Brooklyn, we’re starting the feel the lightheadedness that comes with our dual personalities as both cover band Mimes of Mayhem and STP tribute band Sex Type Thing.

We’ll admit we’ve been putting much of our focus into our act as STT, increasing our repertoire of Stone Temple Pilots hits and STP fan favorites, so if you haven’t seen us in this mode yet, we think you’re in for a great show when you do. Beyond that, we’ve had the pleasure of coordinating with a number of other truly excellent tribute acts, forging some great friendships within that circuit, and really enjoying this slightly-different-but-parallel-life as compared to our cover band experience.

However, there is no rest in Mimedom, and we are also working on new material there, as well as increasing the role of our semi-regular special guest vocalist Kellyann Striplin. Increasing Kellyann’s workload not only gives our audiences a phenomenal voice and something more pleasant to look at than three sets of yours truly, but also allows me to save a little vocal power for our longer shows so we can rock you late into the night! Additionally, we’re now beginning to book gigs where the Mimes of Mayhem and Sex Type Thing perform together on the very same night on the very same stage (not sure how that’ll work out since the two bands don’t seem to get along at all, but…).

Beyond all that exciting news, we’ve now begun experimenting with our first live streaming broadcasts of our shows! Our first “official” broadcast of a Mimes of Mayhem show went out this past Friday when we successfully entertained home viewers with two sets of our show through a link on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mimesofmayhem). We’re hoping to continue livestreaming in the future, so if you absolutely CAN’T see our shows live (keep in mind, we always PREFER to see you in person!), then you can still keep up with the Mayhem from your living room. Watch for broadcast announcements on Facebook!

In other news, the Mimes and STT are both going on just a very short hiatus as we’ve got a lot going on in our personal lives – and it’s all good news! Bassist Bob Vilbig celebrated the birth of his son James Daniel on March 24, and drummer Darrin Cirillo is expecting his first any time now! We’re gonna give these boys a month off just to ensure their wives have all the support they need (and don’t get totally pissed off at them for running out the door to play for y’all), but then we’ll be right back! “When?” you say? “Where?” you say? Well…

Set List at Old Carriage Inn, Brooklyn, NY 5/6/11

May 6, 2011

Old Carriage Inn, Brooklyn, NY

10:20PM : Mimes of Mayhem kicked off their show at OCI.  This evening was aimed at honoring our host, Dorothy Waggleman, for her birthday – which she waited a full week longer to celebrate with her favorite bar band – Mimes of Mayhem.

Coming off a strong show the week prior as alter-ego STP tribute band Sex Type Thing, Mimes of Mayhem was back at OCI for the first time in 2011.  This time around, the crowd reaction was fairly mild all night long.  The band, particularly the drummer, made significant efforts all night long to keep the volume down, which seemed to help people stay inside and carry on their conversations.  Every bar owner appreciates the clientele staying around for the obvious reasons that the longer they stay, the more they eat & drink.  Still, the band likes a ferocious reaction to every song.  On this night, the biggest reactions were to special guest vocalist and birthday girl herself, Kellyann Striplin.

This night also marked a significant first with the band broadcasting part of the show live, streaming across the internet.  The show was seen be a handful of diehard fans using the band’s facebook page as well as their site on Livestream.  This new and exciting means of distribution, though still a bit rough around the edges, is sure to grow into bigger and better things for fans of the Mimes of Mayhem both near and far.

So, with the band making more new friends on this evening and the bar owner in happy spirits, all-in-all, this was another very good night.

Hello Mimers!

Sorry for the lack of recent updates, but the Mimes have been busy guys. 2011 is looking to be a slightly unusual year for us, with a lot of great things happening for us individually outside of the white makeup, but we’re still looking forward to playing for you as much as we can this year and have in fact been in the studio rehearsing some new tunes to bring you when we next all get together, including some hits from Bush, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac and Stone Temple Pilots. We continue to be as eclectic as ever in our choices!

But speaking of the Stone Temple Pilots (you can see I’ve been working on my segues!), our side project as Sex Type Thing: a tribute to Stone Temple Pilots, is going great guns and we’re looking forward to having some fun this coming week in midtown Manhattan! As always, we’d love to see you there! Here’s the info:
Date: This Friday, February 11, 2011
Where: Connolly’s Klub 45 Room
121 West 45th Street
New York City
Tickets: $10 at the door (make sure to tell them you’re there to see Sex Type Thing)
Time: 11pm for Sex Type Thing (A Small Victory- a tribute to Faith No More precedes us as 10pm.)

We’d love to see you down there and if you’re already a fan of our work as an STP tribute, we can promise you at least a couple new songs as part of that repertoire as well!

In between all this work as a slightly-mutated STP clone, keep in mind that your Mimes of Mayhem are always looking for another opportunity to play out among you, so feel free to turn us on to venues or events you’d like to see us at! Hopefully we can join you in your neighborhood real soon!

Enjoy your Superbowl weekend, y’all! Go Jets! (Huh? What? Aw shit… nevermind)

Sex Type Thing performing live at Port 41 in Manhattan.
